Connor Goldson visit delights Shrewsbury youngsters
Shrewsbury Town defender Connor Goldson took time out from the club’s League Two promotion push to visit youngsters at a holiday football coaching course in the town.
Goldson, who is enjoying a fine season for the Greenhous Meadow club, was happy to accept an invitation from Crossbar Coaching Education in Sport to hold a question and answer session with young footballers attending their half term course.
His visit delighted the youngsters who have received top tips from Crossbar’s team of coaches throughout the week at the London Road Sports Centre.
Gavin Cowan, the Crossbar director, said: “We are grateful that Connor found the time to visit us and the children really enjoyed having the chance to meet him.
“He’s a big part in the club’s success this season and Connor’s a great role model. He was very complimentary and it’s great that he sees the value in what we do.
“The children had lots of questions for him and it was great they had the chance to meet someone like Connor that many of them aspire to be like in the future.”
Half term was the first time Crossbar, who also deliver sport across the curriculum to a number of county schools and run football Academies in partnership with the Shropshire Schools & Colleges FA, have held their holiday clubs at the revamped London Road Sports Centre.
They have also offered multi-sports as well and dance and performing arts courses to keep school children occupied and active during their holidays.
Gavin added: “We’ve had a great week and the numbers have been very good. There’s great facilities at London Road Sports Centre with the fantastic new 3G football pitch and also the sports hall.
“We want to keep making our holiday courses and everything we do better and better all the time.”
Dave Edwards, the Wolves and Wales international midfielder, also paid the youngsters on the course a visit later in the week and, like Goldson, proved a big hit, signing autographs and having plenty of pictures taken.
