Tennis in the Park to make popular return to Attingham Park
Attingham Park will be serving up a treat when it hosts Tennis in the Park at the end of the month – an opportunity for Tennis Shropshire to showcase the sport and invite people of all ages to pick up a racket.
The fun event takes place at picturesque Attingham, near Shrewsbury, on Sunday, May 31 between 11am and 4pm.
Normal admission charges will apply, although the tennis activities will be free with all equipment provided.
“Last year’s first Tennis in the Park was a big success and we’re hoping that this one will prove even more popular,” said Bob Kerr, the vice-chairman of Tennis Shropshire.
“It will be the final day of the school half-term holidays and the weather forecast looks favourable, so we anticipate a busy day of promoting tennis and showing people what a fantastic sport it is.”
The colourful Tennis Factory equipment, which offer a host of different fun tennis stations, will be set up in the play area at Attingham and a number of qualified coaches from around the county will be on hand to share their expertise.
“We just want people to come and have a go at tennis,” added Bob. “We want to break down any barriers because tennis really is a sport that’s easy to play once you have had a few basic lessons which do not cost much.
“It’s a great sport for all members of the family and where better than Attingham Park to come and pick up a racket as it’s such a lovely setting.
“We were at Attingham earlier this month taking part in the Game On sports festival when we received lots of visitors.
“We also had a very busy time across the county at the first of this year’s free Great British Tennis Weekends including a very successful event at Southwater in Telford town centre.
“Now we are looking forward to Tennis in the Park and hope to see lots of people throughout what promises to be an enjoyable day.”
