Historic college site brought to market by Towler Shaw Roberts
A historic former Shropshire college site, put up for sale, is being marketed by leading county chartered surveyors Towler Shaw Roberts.
The old Radbrook College campus in Shrewsbury – once part of Shrewsbury College – benefits from a Shropshire Council resolution to grant outline planning permission for residential development.
The site in Radbrook Road occupies almost 14 acres and is in one of the most sought after locations in the town, said Toby Shaw, a partner at Towler Shaw Roberts, who is handling the sale.
It comprises a collection of former educational buildings used by Shrewsbury College, with Shropshire Council offices – including the gabled three-storey former Victorian College, completed in 1902 as the county’s domestic science college for girls.
Although not listed or within a conservation area, this building – together with Lodge House and Walker House – are expected to be retained and converted into homes as part of any future development.
Mr Shaw said the site, which is set in parkland, has been put on the market by The Radbrook Foundation and Shropshire Council.
He said: “We have been instructed by the Radbrook Foundation and Shropshire Council to market the site.
“This is a very significant site. It’s nearly 14 acres and has the resolution to grant outline planning permission for residential development.
“It occupies an attractive parkland setting in a sought after residential area of Shrewsbury.
“The main building, the Victorian College, was completed in 1902 as the county’s domestic science college for girls and provides almost 19,000 square feet.”
Mr Shaw added: “It’s probably one of the most significant sites to come to the market in Shrewsbury and it follows on from our successful sale of the Sutton Grange Nursery to Taylor Wimpey.”
The sale will be by informal tender – with offers to be submitted no later than Thursday, September 23.
Viewing is by prior appointment with Towler Shaw Roberts, who can be contacted on (01743) 243900.
