Regional developer completes purchase of Wolverhampton’s iconic Niphon Works building

A regional developer has completed the purchase of the iconic Niphon Works building in Wolverhampton.

The historic property at 43-68 Lower Villiers Street, originally built in 1885, was once Wolverhampton’s biggest factory, employing more than 300 people.

Located less than a mile from the city centre, planning permission was granted in 2017 for the conversion of the former factory to 49 residential apartments.

The front of the building now features 17 converted one and two-bedroom homes, with planning consent in place for the development of a further 32 apartments.

Towler Shaw Roberts and Sanderson Weatherall were jointly instructed to bring the Niphon Works building to the market.

TSR’s Martin Zaki, who handled the sale of the property, said it has been purchased out of receivership by a regional developer.

Enable the conversion of the property to be resumed

He added: “The Niphon Works is a beautiful building and it’s pleasing that a sale has now been been finalised to enable the conversion of the property to be resumed.

“This is an iconic Wolverhampton property that generated a considerable amount of interest.

“We obtained a sale price that was agreeable to the receivers for the development of the Niphon Works building to now be completed.”

The property, which occupies a total site area of 0.36 acres (0.146 hectares), fronts Lower Villiers Street, which links to the city’s inner ring road via the A459.
